Be Aware
It's been a long battle for ages. You continually search for answers tried different approach and still you fail. How come these treacherous pounds of calories continue to stubbornly cling and wont let go despite the rigid effort of dieting and exercising. I am speaking for the entire universe who one way or another share the same agony and struggles.
Sometimes you wonder, when we were younger just a couple days of running a mile or two, then you loose it. Or simply an asian gal like me who loves her rice, skip it for a week and will shed off 5-8lbs that easy... Okay, let us picture the scenario here --- YOUNGER is the key word. I have to admit, this age system is seriously catching up with me.

"The process of metabolism establishes the rate at which we burn our calories and, ultimately, how quickly we gain weight or how easily we lose it," says Robert Yanagisawa, MD, director of the Medically Supervised Weight Management Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Your metabolism is influenced by your age (metabolism naturally slows about 5% per decade after age 40 --- i'm getting there not too soon but i know i will be); your gender (men generally burn more calories at rest than women); and proportion of lean body mass (the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolic rate tends to be). And yes, heredity makes a difference.
So, here's their take:
Boost your metabolism --- Your best bet for keeping metabolism revved: Build muscles, snack on low-calorie, high-protein foods, and keep moving!

you can do this Cinds... i read an article the other day in women's health mag that if our sole purpose is to lose weight, we will have a hard time shedding it off, but if our main focus is to be healthy (change of lifestyle), losing weight will follow.
i don't exercise because i want to be uber thin. i exercise because all those diseases we studied in nursing school makes me praning. not only that, i'm afraid to get sick because i don't have medical insurance yet.
hey cindy, let's support each other on exercising and eating right. For the past 3 years, I never exercised. Guilty, and it shows, and before I know it I"m already XX yrs. old.
I agree with Mai! Exercise and eat healthy as part of a lifestyle--not to lose weight. I always find that if I have "losing weight" in mind, I don't lose anything--sometimes I even gain weight. Stress makes me gain weight. But when I just stop thinking about it, just stay active and stick to what I consider fun (like dancing), I shed off pounds a little easier.
